Car Thief Suspect Hid In Swamp: Mendota Heights Police

An officer was injured following a reported car theft that took place near the intersection of Huber and Delaware in Mendota Heights.

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN β€” An officer was injured following a reported car theft that took place near the intersection of Huber and Delaware in Mendota Heights early Tuesday. Officers received a call of a theft of a vehicle around 2:30 a.m.

Officers located the suspect and he fled on foot, according to police. Surrounding agencies responded to assist.

Canines from West St. Paul and Bloomington joined in and the suspect was found hiding in a swamp. An officer sustained a minor injury while taking the suspect into custody and the officer was transported to the hospital. A second stolen vehicle was recovered in the area, according to police.

"Please, Please, Please, keep your vehicles locked," Mendota Heights police said on Facebook. "We know that this doesn't happen often (and we would like to keep it that way), but the suspect chose our community for a reason."
