This is a unique opportunity to learn the basics of hearth cooking as well as life in the early 1800s. A skilled cook will provide instruction in using tools, utensils, and "receipts" (recipes) to create foods from the past on the original 1820s hearth in the Commandant’s House. This class will focus on an everyday meal prepared in a hanging pot, and incorporate the use of bake kettles and a spider (skillet). When all is ready, participants will take a seat at the table as the meal is served while costumed staff talk about daily life in the early 1800s. Space is very limited, so reserve early. Participants must be age 18+. Reservations required.
