Henry Sibley Spring Sports Wrap-up

Season highlights from Sibley baseball, boys and girls golf, softball, boys tennis, and boys and girls track and field.

BOYS BASEBALL
The Boys Baseball team had a successful season as they finished 3rd in the conference with an 8-8 record while losing 4 games by 1 run. Zach Gottfredsen, Jake Ihrke and Ross Buttleman were All Conference selections and Cole Lucken, August Anderson and Sam Pressman were Honorable Mention All Conference. Gottfredsen was voted by his teammates as the Most Valuable Player and was also selected to play in the Lions All-Star game this summer. Pressman was awarded the Most Improved Player by his teammates.

BOYS GOLF
The Henry Sibley Boys Golf Team had a great season. They finished 5th in the Conference by the narrowest of margins. Team Captain Jack Ganzer was named All Conference Honorable Mention and was medalist on two separate occasions. Team MVP Scott Fudenberg received All Conference Honors, was a two-time medalist, and ended up 2nd overall in the conference in points earned. Kellen Overvig was also named All Conference and was medalist. Ganzer, Fudenberg, and Overvig all advanced to day two at Regions and had a shot at going to the State Tournament. Drew Conway was named team MIP and did a great job as first year player. Other highlights included winning the SPA Tournament at Somerset Country Club and finishing 3rd at the Tartan Tournament. Other varsity members include Captain Ty Tostrud, Ellis Holt and Nick Mahmood. The Warriors hope to have another good season next year.

GIRLS GOLF
The Girls Golf Team finished the season with a strong performance at the Section Tournament at Bunker Hills. Senior Captain Natalie Kramer missed continuing to the second day of sections by only two strokes. Captains Kramer and Maggie Klehr had strong senior seasons. Juniors Ellie Menssen and Tillie Langston along with Sophomores Lizzy Johnson and Madi Kemp gained valuable varsity experience which will help the team heading into next season. Most Valuable Player this year was Natalie Kramer and Most Improved Player was Lizzy Johnson.

GIRLS FASTPITCH SOFTBALL
The Sibley softball team finished the season 6-14. While wins were tough to come by this season, the team took 2nd at the Como Park Tournament and played some of their best ball of the season at this tournament.  Younger players gained valuable experience this season and made steady improvements as the season went along. Hannah Delmont was named All Conference and  Most Valuable Player. Kiera Gottfedsen earned All Conference Honorable Mention and was also the team’s Most Improved Player.

BOYS TENNIS
The boys tennis team has a great spring season. They had a 10-4 record, and finished 3rd in the conference with a  record. No. 1 singles player David Wilton earned the Conference Player of the Year Award with an undefeated season. David and Chris Prokosch teamed up to finish 3rd in the section doubles tournament. They were one match away from the state tournament. The following players were voted All Conference: David Prokosch, Chris Prokosch, Brandon Less, Steve Malmgren and Sam Farber. Noah Farber was selected as an All Conference Honorable Mention.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
The Boys Track and Field team finished 2nd in the conference this season, making history with their best ever finish at a Classic Suburban Conference meet. Capping off a historic season was senior captain Kenneth Jinkins, who was the individual conference champion in the 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles. Jinkins also broke the 40-year -old 300m hurdles school record earlier in the season with a time of 39.23. Jinkins qualified for the State Meet for the second year in a row in the 300m hurdles, earning a 1st place finish at the Section 3AA Meet. Fellow senior captain Will Larsen also stepped up in a big way this season, leading a distance group that scored three individuals in the top 8 of the 800m and 1600m, and two in the 3200m. Larsen himself was the conference champion in the open 800m. Larsen and Jinkins, along with senior PJ Gannon and sophomore Max Lichtfuss, were the conference champion 4x400 team. Larsen and Gannon also earned All Conference honors in the 4x800 along with junior Kyle Gilberg and Senior JP Pineiro, with a 2nd place finish. Earning All Conference Honorable Mention this season were senior Abdi Adan (3rd in the 800), sophomore Max Lichtfuss (3rd in 110mH, 3rd in 300mH) and freshman Joe Dill (4th in 1600m, 4th in 3200m).

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
The highlight of the Girls 2014 Track and Field season came in the last race of the year. The 4x400 relay team of junior Autumn Odean, sophomore Lisa Fisher, senior Sydney Latterell, and junior Kania Johnson ran the fastest time in the race in school history, breaking the 19-year-old school record with a time of 4:00.88. Just a week earlier, all four athletes played a major role in the girls 5th place performance at conference. All four were the conference 4x400, earning All Conference honors with a 2nd place finish. Johnson was the conference champion in the 200m, and was 2nd overall in the long jump and 100m. Odean was 2nd in the 300m hurdles and 3rd in the long jump. Latterell earned a 4th place finish in the 800m and Fisher was 4th place in the 400m. Junior Erin O'Boyle also had a terrific meet, finishing 4th in a competitive 3200m race and earning All Conference Honorable Mention honors. Also earning All Conference Honorable Mention was the 4x800 team of O'Boyle, Latterell, senior Cassie Furlong, and freshman Elizabeth Whitcomb.
