Henry Sibley Tennis Duo Bows out of State Meet

Schull, Beermann fall in the Class AA quarterfinals to Mahtomedi's doubles squad

The Henry Sibley boys tennis team had a doubles duo competing Thursday at the Class AA state doubles meet at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center.

Warriors junior Matt Schull and senior Sebastian Beermann competed in the state meet, winning their first match before bowing out of the championship with a loss in the state quarterfinals.

Schull and Beermann opened up the tournament with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Chisago Lakes Area’s Brett Lizotte and Johannes Rau, advancing to the quarterfinals.

But in the quarters, the Warriors fell to Mahtomedi’s Josh Plooster and Christopher Johnson in a 4-6, 2-6 match. Plooster and Johnson each competed with their Zephyrs teammates earlier in the week in the Class AA state team meet.

Plooster and Johnson will face Minneapolis South’s Martin Beck and Luke Elifson in the state semifinals on Friday at 8 a.m.
