Mendota City Council Recap: Veteran's Park Cleanup, Ride for Rehab

in Mendota could get a round of spring-cleaning this May. Mayor Brian Mielke proposed a designated clean-up day for the park at the council's meeting Tuesday night at the . The council was supportive of the proposal.
- Mendota will host the Soldiers "Ride for Rehab" on June 9. The motorcycle ride will begin and end in Mendota. Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the National Veterans Wellness & Healing Center, which treats veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. (Editor's Note: This event has been canceled.)
- During the Treasurer's Report, the council discussed the recent expenditure of $1,953.25 to McDonough's Waterjetting for Highway 13's annual sewer cleaning. The cleaning turned up more grease in the sewers that is not being caught by restaurant grease traps. The council discussed the possibility of cleaning the sewers more frequently and billing , the suspected responsible party, for any sewage services outside of the routine annual cleaning, before deciding to follow up with McDonough's.
- Four manhole covers in Mendota are in need of replacement. The covers cost $144 each from McDonough's Waterjetting. Council member Alan Ralston has expressed interest in installing the manhole covers, rather than paying McDonough's for installation.
