Suspended Mendota Heights Officer Viewed Photos Of Women: Report

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN — For the third time, Mendota Heights police officer Mike Shepard has been suspended.

This round of disciplinary action comes after a lengthy internal affairs investigation.

KSTP reported that a letter written by Mendota Heights Police Chief Kelly McCarthy told Shepard that he is suspended for 30 days without pay for misconduct and violating a direct order from a superior:

"Due to your misuse of (Division of Vehicle Services) data and your violation of a direct order by discussing the City's investigation into allegations against you with a former City employee, the rationale for the 30-day suspension is explained in the attached letter," McCarthy wrote.

McCarthy cited numerous examples of Shepard's use of DVS data to look up drivers' license information, including looking up photos of two women for non-professional use.
