Moreland students, families will join Z Puppets for public performance Nov. 16

On Saturday, Nov. 16, families from Moreland Arts & Health Sciences Magnet School will join artists from Z Puppets Rosenschnoz to present "Monkey Mind Pirates" — a fun performance that combines puppetry, rock music and yoga. The performance stems from a year-long partnership between Moreland (in School District 197) and Z Puppets to help students and their families learn about healthy strategies and physical wellness to improve students' ability to concentrate during class, helping boost their classroom success.

During the performance of "Monkey Mind Pirates," Moreland students, families and staff will be on stage with Z Puppets performers to tell the story of Captain Fitz as he sets out on a quest for the Legendary Waters of Calm. When the unruly Monkey Mind Pirates hijack his ship with anxiety, depression and distraction, the Captain goes overboard and meets the Wise Sea Monkey. Find out how the Wise Sea Monkey teaches the Captain to change his “Arrghs” to “Oms” and tame the Monkey Mind Pirates.

Moreland families will perform puppetry and debut their own original song alongside the professional musicians and puppeteers of Z Puppets. The show is free and recommended for ages 2 and up.

Z Puppets Rosenschnoz is an award-winning performance group based in Minneapolis that delights children and adults with feats of imagination, mixing hand-crafted puppetry, quirky comedy with live music. 

Moreland Arts & Health Sciences Magnet School serves students in Kindergarten through Grade 4. The school features an arts-infused curriculum supported by effective practices in health and fitness, energizing students and giving them tools for lifelong learning. Moreland is part of West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan Area Schools (District 197). 

The partnership between Moreland and Z Puppets has been made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund; and by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
