UofM to Student to Run Painting Business this Summer

Mendota Heights, MN- As winter temperatures continually fluctuate, the need for house maintenance becomes increasingly prominent. Wood and paint grow and shrink as they freeze and defrost, making cracking, alligatoring, and bubbling on house exteriors inevitable. In response, local college student Maggie Kristian will be running her own painting business this year through College Works Painting. College Works in an internship program that allows hardworking college students to jump start their career by gaining experience running a business.

Maggie is an Environmental Science Major with a minor in Corporate Environmental Management. She holds a 3.6 GPA, and is involved with the Institute on the Environment Undergraduate Leaders Program and the Policy Engagement program in her college. She has also tutored at several primary schools, most recently Murray Middle School in St. Paul. In her free time, she enjoys running obstacle course races, such as Spartan Races and Tough Mudders, hiking with her 2 corgis, Sandy and Pearl, and spending time with friends and family.

Maggie became involved with College Works in September 2014 when she went through multiple rounds of interviews to be selected for the position. After intensive training sessions, Maggie has developed a great knowledge of various paint technology. In addition to being technically knowledgeable and dedicated to doing the best job she can, she is also dedicated to the unique culture of ‘Minnesota nice’. Maggie will only be working with a small amount of clients, and she believes strongly in individualized service and providing top quality work, both on the house itself as well as being kind, courteous, and a good neighbor.
