3 MN Republicans Vote Against Bill Banning Some Semi-Automatic Guns

Congress banned semi-automatic weapons in 1994, but the ban expired under President George W. Bush.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Minnesota's representatives in the U.S. House voted along party lines on a bill that bans some semi-automatic guns. The legislation narrowly passed Friday by a vote of 217-213 but is unlikely to pass the Senate.

Democratic reps. Angie Craig, Ilhan Omar, Dean Phillips, and Betty McCollum voted in favor of the measure. Republican reps. Tom Emmer, Pete Stauber, and Michelle Fischbach voted against it.

"Gun violence is the leading killer of children in our nation," said Omar in a statement. "The Uvalde, Buffalo, El Paso, Parkland, Las Vegas, Sandy Hook shooters all had one thing in common: they all used AR-15 style assault rifles. These weapons of war have no place on our streets."
