TWIN CITIES, MN — Yes, a real snowstorm is in the forecast for Minnesota. You'll have to break out the shovels, and there might even be a snow emergency or two. Finally, right?

"The largest snowstorm of the season is on tap, but the bar has been set very low this year," the National Weather Service noted.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for most of central Minnesota, including the counties of Wright, Hennepin, Anoka, Ramsey, Washington, Carver, Scott, Dakota, Le Sueur, Rice, Goodhue, and Waseca.

Somewhere between 4 and 6 inches of snow is expected to accumulate in the Twin Cities metro area, according to the NWS.

A snow/rain mix is expected to arrive in the metro around 5 p.m. Wednesday, just in time for rush hour. The storm will wrap around midnight Thursday, according to the latest forecast.

It will turn to all snow later in the evening.

"A narrow band of higher amounts near 6 inches is possible from the southern Twin Cities metro toward Eau Claire in Wisconsin, leading to greater impacts where the band sets up," the NWS notes.

Wednesday: Rain and snow likely after 3pm, becoming all snow after 5pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 42. West southwest wind around 5 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Snow, mainly before midnight. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 23. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 30. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Thursday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 18. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 25. Blustery, with a northwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
