7-Year-Old Girl, 11-Year-Old Boy Shot In Minneapolis Early Wednesday

The children were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The shooting does not appear to have been random, police said.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are investigating after a 7-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy were shot early Wednesday morning. No arrests have been made.

Just after 3:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire at a duplex on the 3000 block of Emerson Avenue North.

Inside the duplex apartment, officers found and treated a 7-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy who both suffered non-life-threatening graze wounds. The children were then transported to North Memorial Medical Center

Police found evidence that a gun was fired from outside in the street while the children were inside the apartment at the time.

The shooting does not appear to be random, according to authorities.

"The level of gun violence in this city is totally unacceptable," Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said in a statement.

"We are outraged whenever our children are victimized by senseless violence, and thankful that the injuries appear to be non-life-threatening. As mentioned before, based on preliminary information, this shooting does not appear to be random, however, we are confident these children were not the intended target."
