Altercation Leads To Death Of One In Minneapolis

May 20, 2020 (MINNEAPOLIS) On Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 12:24 am, Minneapolis Police and Fire responded to a report of a shooting on the 2900 block of Girard Avenue North.

Officers arrived and located a male party suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency care was immediately provided by officers until they were relieved by paramedics. The victim was loaded into the ambulance in grave condition. The victim was deceased upon arrival at North Memorial Medical Center.

Officers immediately cordoned off the area and investigators from the Minneapolis Police Department’s Homicide Unit were called to the scene along with the Crime Lab personnel.

Officers also canvassed the area and spoke with several people.

Preliminary investigation indicates that two people were in a physical altercation and a shot was fired. The victim was struck and the suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the victim as well as the nature and cause of death in the coming days.
