MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A sharp spring cooldown could bring a chance of snow to the Twin Cities this weekend, just days after temperatures climb into the 70s.
According to the National Weather Service, a storm system moving through Friday will bring widespread rain and possible thunderstorms before temperatures plunge Friday night. By Saturday, conditions may be cold enough for a mix of rain and snow, with a slight chance of snow showers during the day.
The forecast shows highs falling from the low 70s Friday to just the low 40s Saturday, with overnight temperatures dropping to around freezing. Gusty winds up to 30 mph could make it feel even colder.
While snowfall, if it occurs, is expected to be light and spotty, the shift highlights Minnesota’s volatile spring weather pattern. Any snow would likely melt quickly given recent warmth and April sun angle.
The cooldown will be brief. Sunshine returns Sunday with a high near 50, followed by a warmer start to next week with temperatures rebounding into the 60s.
The NWS forecast for Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport shows a classic spring swing: warm, stormy, then a quick shot at winter before temperatures recover.
