MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday confirmed Anthony Edwards suffered a left knee hyperextension injury and bone bruise in Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets.

The team said an MRI conducted by Dr. Craig Bennett at Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine revealed the injury. Edwards will be considered week-to-week, and further updates will be provided when available, the Timberwolves said.

The update came hours before Game 5 of Minnesota’s first-round playoff series against Denver. The Wolves lead the Nuggets 3-1 and can advance to the second round with a win Monday night.

Game 5 is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. CT at Ball Arena in Denver. The game will air nationally on TNT.

Edwards was injured Saturday in the second quarter of Minnesota’s 112-96 Game 4 win at Target Center. He left the game after landing awkwardly while contesting a shot.

The injury is a major blow for Minnesota, which also lost guard Donte DiVincenzo to a torn right Achilles tendon in Game 4. DiVincenzo’s season is over.

Denver is favored by 11.5 points at most major sportsbooks entering Game 5, despite trailing the series 3-1.

Edwards averaged 28.8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3.7 assists during the regular season. His absence leaves the Wolves without their leading scorer as they try to close out one of the NBA’s best players in Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets.

The Timberwolves still have up to three chances to win the series, but Monday night is their first opportunity to end it.
