MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A Northeast Minneapolis restaurant has landed on a prestigious national list.
Oro by Nixta, the masa-focused restaurant from chef Gustavo Romero and his wife and business partner Kate, was named one of the best Mexican restaurants in the United States by the New York Times.
The Romeros built their reputation locally with a tortilleria they opened during the pandemic, once serving tacos off an ironing board on the sidewalk before opening the full restaurant in 2023.
The Times highlighted the restaurant's focus on nixtamalized heirloom corn, along with its braised and roasted meats, seasonal produce and wide range of moles and salsas.
The paper credited Oro by Nixta as one of the reasons Northeast Minneapolis has become one of the country's most exciting neighborhoods for dining.
