Today's riddle: What do evil hens lay? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Minneapolis City Council committee advances Reign's liquor license for renewal (kstp.com) — Minneapolis City Council's Business, Housing and Zoning Committee has unanimously advanced the liquor license renewal for Reign Event Center, weeks after a shooting outside the venue prompted extra scrutiny. City staff, police, and ownership updated security and business plans, while 911 call data and safety concerns were reviewed. The full council will now decide on final approval.
2. Minneapolis ordinance targets velvet rope discrimination at bars and restaurants (fox9.com) — Minneapolis city leaders have advanced an ordinance that would require bars and restaurants with dress codes to post them publicly, aiming to curb so-called "velvet rope discrimination." The measure, inspired by a Houston law and a 2018 downtown incident, seeks to protect marginalized communities from opaque rules. After unanimous committee approval, it heads to the full council next week.
3. Prosecutors: 'Commercial sex and Medicaid-funded enterprise' billed for $4.65 million over 3 years (kstp.com) — Prosecutors say two Minneapolis properties tied to an assisted living business were allegedly used in a scheme that mixed commercial sex with millions in fraudulent Medicaid billing. State investigators and the Attorney General's Office linked several companies to more than $4.65 million in taxpayer-funded claims, while Human Services has halted payments and barred associated providers as the investigation continues.
4. Bell, Jeffers push Twins past Braves 4-1 (nujournal.com) — At Target Field in Minneapolis, Josh Bell's early two-run homer and Ryan Jeffers' late two-run double powered the Twins past the Atlanta Braves 4–1, clinching the series. Zebby Matthews delivered a strong start and Yoendrys Gómez closed it out, setting up Wednesday's finale with Minnesota already in control.
5. Minnesota invests $41M to grow the state's teacher workforce (kimt.com) — Announced from Minneapolis, state education officials are directing more than $41 million into grants that support teacher training, mentorship, and "Grow Your Own" pathways across Minnesota. The funding boosts tuition assistance, special education training, and residency programs, aiming to diversify the profession and help more local residents, including those in Minneapolis, become and stay classroom teachers.
