MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A Minneapolis zero-waste refill shop is asking customers for help after a year of slower sales at both of its locations.
Tare Market founder Amber told customers in an email Wednesday that the business has seen a major dip in foot traffic this year.
She pointed to two causes: the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement earlier this year, followed by ongoing construction at the shop's Northeast Minneapolis location on Broadway Street.
The shop has kept hosting events, partnering with other local makers and shops, and selling at farmers markets, but sales have remained slower, according to the email.
A few weeks ago, Tare Market posted a video to Instagram asking the community for help. Amber said the response since then has been "absolutely incredible," with people sharing the shop's story, placing orders and stopping in to shop.
"We know there are a lot of places asking for your support right now and we don't take it lightly when you choose to spend your dollars (and time) with us," she wrote.
Amber said word of mouth helps as much as a purchase for people who aren't due for a refill. Customers can also shop in person, where the store runs a Community Recycling program, or order online, with shipping anywhere in the U.S.
The shop now offers local delivery to customers within 20 miles. Regulars can also set up auto-subscriptions for products they refill often, for pickup, shipping or local delivery, with a discount on subsequent subscription orders.
Tare Market will mark eight years in business in April. Its Northeast location is at 945 Broadway Street NE, Suite 103.
