Grain Elevator Catches Fire In Minneapolis

Firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze in a grain elevator along a major thoroughfare in Minneapolis.

MINNEAPOLIS — Firefighters were working Wednesday to extinguish a blaze in a grain elevator along a major thoroughfare in southeast Minneapolis, according to authorities.

The fire department tweeted around 7 a.m. that its crews were on the scene of the elevator at 37th Street and Hiawatha Avenue after a blaze was found in the lower level, authorities said. Emergency personnel also discovered fire at the top of the grain tower.

By 8:30 a.m., crews were making progress extinguishing the flames, putting water down several grain shoots and towers from the upper level, according to the department.
