Hennepin County Jail Inmate Dies

The incident marked the second death involving a Hennepin County Jail inmate in two weeks.

MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities are investigating after an inmate at the Hennepin County Jail died, marking the second in-custody death at the jail in two weeks.

The 36-year-old man was found unresponsive in his bed following an "apparent medical incident," according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

The inmate was treated at the scene before he was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

"I’d like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the individual’s loved ones," said Sheriff Dawanna Witt.

"These incidents weigh heavy on all those impacted. I appreciate the consideration and professionalism that was shown by our staff and partners who responded to assist with the incident."

The inmate's name and cause of death will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. The man's family has been notified, authorities said.
