Pride month is celebrated each year during the month of June in cities large and small across the country and beyond. June was selected as the month to celebrate Pride to honor the Stonewall uprising that occurred in June of 1969 in Greenwich Village in New York City. This marked when the gay rights movement was energized to emerge and fight for human rights in the 1970s into the present day.
