'Long Duration' Of Bitter Cold Arrives: MN Weather
Minnesotans should cover exposed skin before heading out, even if it's just to empty the trash.

MINNEAPOLIS — After a relatively warm January, bitter cold will finally arrive in the final days of the month. Minnesotans should dress in multiple layers and cover exposed skin before heading out, even if it's just to empty the trash and recycling bins.
"A long duration cold air outbreak will move in this weekend and last through most of next week. Please dress in layers and cover exposed skin," the National Weather Service said.
The low temperature will hit 12 degrees below zero on Monday, according to the latest forecast.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 14. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south southwest in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: Snow, mainly between 10pm and 4am. Patchy blowing snow between midnight and 3am. Temperature rising to around 25 by 5am. Breezy, with a south wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Friday: A 40 percent chance of snow, mainly before 8am. Patchy blowing snow between 7am and noon. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature rising to near 30 by 8am, then falling to around 16 during the remainder of the day. Blustery, with a west southwest wind 15 to 20 mph becoming northwest in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
Friday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 4. West northwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming north after midnight.
