Minneapolis Man Accused Of Killing Wife, Her Son In Anoka County: Reports

Authorities said the woman had two recent orders for protection against the man but sought to have them dismissed, according to reports.

ANOKA COUNTY, MN — A Minneapolis man is facing charges after authorities said he fatally shot his wife and her 5-year-old son just weeks after beating the woman in an attack where she felt like she was going to die, according to multiple reports.

Irving Marsaw, 53, of Minneapolis, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder this week in connection with the shooting of Jennifer Marsaw and her 5-year-old son, Marzai Dawson, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported.

The 44-year-old woman and her son were found by police shortly before 1 a.m. on March 18 at the home in the 9300 block of Ryan Place in Lexington in Anoka County.

According to charging documents obtained by CBS Minnesota, one of Jennifer Marsaw's other children called 911 and told police she heard several "pops" inside the home when she and two of her siblings went for a walk.

After hearing the noise, charging documents said they watched Irving Marsaw walk out of the house with a gun. They went inside, where they discovered Jennifer Marsaw and Dawson had been shot, reports said.

Irving Marsaw was arrested around 1:30 a.m. the same morning after authorities found him in a "wooded area" a few blocks from the scene, CBS News reported.

According to the Star Tribune, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office secured two warrants for Irving Marsaw’s arrest a day before the killings. Court documents said one warrant was because he violated an unrelated no-contact order, while the other was connected to an incident during which he choked Jennifer Marsaw until she blacked out as they sat in a car in Minneapolis.

"Victim stated that she felt like she was going to die," read a criminal complaint.

Reports said Jennifer Marsaw obtained two protection orders against her husband, one on Nov. 19 and another on Jan. 17.

“He’s threatened to hang me from a tree in Mississippi ... and threatened to kill my children,” read her first petition, which also asked for four minor children, including Dawson, to be covered by the order.

Jennifer Marsaw eventually had both orders dismissed, reports said.
