According to court records obtained by the Star Tribune, Duncan was released from Hennepin County jail on Monday afternoon while he awaited a court-ordered evaluation on separate charges. The documents said that less than three hours later, Duncan entered a relative’s home in north Minneapolis, where he shot and killed two family members.

His motive remains unclear.

According to the Star Tribune's report, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said police are working to determine if the killings were connected to Duncan's arrest, but "there’s no indication that his cousins had anything to do with him being arrested."
