Minnesota Tops 20,000 Coronavirus Cases Statewide

ST. PAUL, MN — More than 20,000 people have now tested positive in Minnesota for COVID-19. The Minnesota Department of Health reported Sunday that 20,573 patients have tested positive for the virus, with 730 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

The state also confirmed 17 new fatalities from COVID-19, bringing Minnesota's death total to 869. nearly 200,000 tests for the virus have been administered statewide.

As of Sunday, Minnesota's COVID-19 statistics:

Total positive: 20,573

• Number of health care workers: 2,327

Total approximate number of completed tests: 197,964

• Total approximate number of completed tests from the MDH Public Health Lab: 21,925
• Total approximate number of completed tests from external laboratories: 176,039

Total cases requiring hospitalization: 2,588

• Hospitalized as of Thursday: 553
• Hospitalized in ICU as of Thursday: 207

Patients no longer needing isolation: 14,115

Deaths: 869

• Deaths among cases that resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities: 709
