MN Weather: Cold Front Moves In Behind Storms

The low temperatures this weekend will drop into the mid-50s in the Twin Cities metro area.

TWIN CITIES, MN — After a warm Thursday, Minnesotans should expect a nosedive in temperatures this weekend, thanks to the storms moving in Friday.

The high temperature on both Saturday and Sunday won't even reach the mid-70s.

"Showers and thunderstorms will overspread the area through the morning and afternoon. Temperatures will fall into the 60s behind a cold front this morning, and remain more fall-like through the weekend," the National Weather Service said.

Here's the full NWS forecast from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport:

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 62 by 4pm. West wind 5 to 15 mph becoming north in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then a slight chance of showers between 2am and 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. North wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 72. North wind 5 to 10 mph.
