While a specific incident for moving the former police officer who killed Justine Damond wasn't released, concern for his safety was cited.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Former Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor, who is serving prison time for killing Justine Ruszczyk Damond, was relocated Friday to a facility outside of Minnesota, according to reports. A state corrections spokesperson told the Star Tribune Tuesday the move was done out of concern for Noor’s well-being.

A Hennepin County judge sentenced Noor in June to 12.5 years in prison. Noor fatally shot Damond — a 40-year-old bride-to-be originally from Sydney, Australia — on July 15, 2017, in Minneapolis. In April, he was convicted of second-degree manslaughter and third-degree murder.

Moor was serving time in Minnesota’s Oak Park Heights prison before his transfer. Minnesota Department of Corrections spokeswoman Sarah Fitzgerald told the Star Tribune his new location cannot be made public, and that his circumstances — including his role as a former police officer — were considered when determining the best placement for his safety.
