Overnight Shooting Leaves One Deceased And One Injured

Officers worked diligently to locate any victims, witnesses or suspects.

February 23, 2020 (MINNEAPOLIS) Sunday morning at 2:04 am, Minneapolis Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting that shots were being fired inside a building on the 400 block of 2nd Avenue North. Some callers reported someone had been shot. Multiple officers arrived and dealt with a chaotic scene. Officers worked diligently to locate any victims, witnesses or suspects.

Officers located an adult male, in his 20s, who was suffering from a gunshot wound. This victim had no pulse or respirations. Officers immediately began chest compressions while additional officers applied chest seals. A heart beat was reestablished and he was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, the MPD was advised he died several hours later.

Officers were able to get the scene under control and spoke with several witnesses. Staff from HCMC called and reported that another adult, in his 20s, male walked into their emergency room with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound believed to be from this same incident.

Staff from the Minneapolis Police Department’s Crime Lab responded and processed the scene, collecting evidence for further analysis. Detectives worked through the night and will continue through the day to work on this case. Among other things, they will also look to see if this incident is linked to any others from the weekend or recent past.
