People Are Going Bonkers Over Duluth's Weather
While most of Minnesota was dealing with extreme heat on Tuesday, temperatures in Duluth hovered in the low 40s.

DULUTH, MN — While much of Minnesota was under an excessive heat warning Tuesday, the weather was a bit chilly in the state's major port city.
Temperatures were in the low 40s in Duluth, thanks to the "AC effect" from Lake Superior.
"Excessive heat warning for the MSP. I'm in Duluth, blocks away from the Aerial Lift Bridge, where it's foggy and 43. Classic Duluth," tweeted Minnesota Public Radio host Cathy Wurzer. "Mom up the Shore has her heat on. Will start shedding clothes after I get up over the hill and head home!"

The surface temperature of Lake Superior is only about 37 degrees, according to real-time data from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. When the wind blows just right, the lake can cool the city considerably.
"This is why I could never live there. 90 kinda sucks. But 43 in June is horrible," read one response to Wurzer.

"Our AC is out down here and I'm tempted to just drive up there to sleep," read another.
"If you live on the hill in Duluth be aware of excessive heat exposure. If you live by the lake be aware of early signs of hypothermia," joked the Duluth Fire Union.
"93° in Minneapolis but 46° in Canal Park!" noted meteorologist Sven Sundgaard.
There is more extreme heat in the forecast for the state this weekend. The National Weather Service in Duluth said that "those near Lake Superior may see the 'AC effect' again on Sunday, but less likely on Monday from southwest winds."
