Poll: Democrat Keith Ellison In Dead Heat With Republican Challenger

A new poll conducted by the Star Tribune, MPR News, and KARE 11 shows that Minnesota's attorney general is vulnerable this elections season.

MINNESOTA — Minnesota Attorney Keith Ellison is in a dead heat with his Republican challenger, Jim Schultz, according to poll published Sunday.

The "Minnesota Poll" was conducted by the Star Tribune, MPR News, and KARE 11. It surveyed 800 likely voters.

Of the poll respondents, 46 percent support Ellison, while 45 percent support Schultz. The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Ellison's strongest support is in Ramsey and Hennepin County, while Schultz finds most of his support outside of the Twin Cities metro area.

After serving in Congress since 2007, Ellison ran for attorney general in 2018. He defeated a Trump-style in Republican Doug Wardlow by less than 4 percentage points.

So far in the 2022 campaign, Schultz has tried to blame the state's rising crime rates on Ellison. He also took issue with Ellison's decision to not appeal a ruling that stuck down Minnesota's abortion regulations.
