MINNEAPOLIS — President Joe Biden is set to visit Minnesota on Wednesday to kick off his administration's "Investing in Rural America Event Series."

Starting this week, Biden and other senior officials will "barnstorm across the country to highlight how Bidenomics and the President’s Investing in America agenda are ensuring rural Americans do not have to leave their hometowns to find opportunity," the White House said in a statement.

Biden and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will visit a family farm in Northfield to highlight the Biden-Harris Administration’s investments in rural America and efforts to support local farmers and communities.

In conjunction with Wednesday's visit, the president plans to announce more than $5 billion in spending on adapting agriculture to climate change, expanding high-speed internet access, improving local infrastructure, and more.

The funding will come from the "Inflation Reduction Act" and other laws passed in Biden's first term.

According to his public schedule, Biden will leave Joint Base Andrews en route to Minneapolis at 11 a.m. central. From Minneapolis, he will travel to Northfield, with a planned arrival at 1:50 p.m.

Biden will then participate in a tour of a family farm in Northfield, deliver remarks, and depart for a private campaign reception in Minneapolis that starts at 6:15 p.m.

Biden is set to leave Minneapolis for Washington, D.C. at 7:30 p.m.

Biden's visit Wednesday comes just days after Rep. Dean Phillips — a Democrat from the suburbs of Minneapolis — announced his bid to challenge Biden in the presidential primary.

Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman David Hann said that "it could not be more obvious that Biden is coming to Minnesota because of Phillips' recent announcement and challenge for the Democratic nomination for president."

"Biden's visit to Minnesota isn't about repackaging his failed economic policies; it's to shore up support with Democrats and block Phillip's campaign from gaining strength. Just this morning, eight DFL legislators released a statement defending Biden against Phillips’ challenge and legitimizing his campaign."

The White House said Biden's visit to Minnesota was planned before Phillips' announcement.
