Six Injured When Van Crashes Into Minneapolis Bus Stop
The van was driven by an 83-year-old man, according to reports, who struck a bus mirror twice before slamming into the bus shelter.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Six people were injured Tuesday morning when a van slammed into a busy North Minneapolis bus stop, according to reports. The 83-year-old driver of the van initially was taken into custody by police but was released pending further investigation.
Witnesses confirmed that the man was heading south on Lyndale Avenue when he struck the mirror of a bus stopped at West Broadway to unload passengers, the Star Tribune reported. The man backed up and hit the mirror a second time before traveling around the corner and crashing into the bus shelter around 9:30 a.m., according to a Metro Transit spokesman.
Three people were taken to North Memorial Health with critical injuries. Two were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, and one was treated and released at the scene. Metro Transit police are investigating the incident.
