MINNEAPOLIST-ST. PAUL AIRPORT — The Twin Cities metro area was absolutely hammered with snow this week. The Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport saw a historic 14.9 inches of snow accumulate on Tuesday and Wednesday.
This week's two-day snowfall event ranks no. 17 for two-day snow totals in the region, with records dating back to 1875.

- 26.7 inches (Oct. 31-Nov. 1, 1991)
- 20.0 inches ending (Jan. 22-Jan. 23, 1982)
- 19.6 inches ending (Nov. 1-Nov. 2, 1991)
- 17.5 inches ending (Jan. 21, Jan. 22, 1982)
- 17.1 inches ending (Dec. 10, Dec. 11, 2010)
This week's storm brought hundreds of crashes, spinouts, and jackknifed semis across Minnesota highways. But the snow is expected to end Thursday morning across the state.
"Light snow comes to an end this morning," the NWS said. "Some breaks in the clouds are expected this afternoon, with areas of freezing fog expected to develop tonight through tomorrow morning. Dry and mainly quiet weather is expected into next week."

Thursday: Snow, mainly before 9am. Temperature falling to around 22 by 5pm. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Thursday Night: Patchy freezing fog after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 7. West northwest wind around 5 mph.
Friday: Patchy freezing fog before 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 19. West wind around 5 mph.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 5. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming north northeast after midnight.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 20. North northeast wind around 5 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.
Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 8. South wind around 5 mph.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 23. South southwest wind around 5 mph.
Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 20. South southwest wind around 5 mph.
