🌱 State Troopers Called For Mpls Street Races + Dinkytown Shooting?

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Minneapolis.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, friends! I'm back with your fresh copy of the Minneapolis Daily. Let's get this Saturday started off right, with a quick review of everything you need to know about what's going on around town...

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and pleasant. High: 85 Low: 69.

Here are the top three stories in Minneapolis today:

  1. The state of Minneapolis is sending more state troopers to Minneapolis this weekend in an effort to curb street racing in the Twin Cities. State Patrol has already increased its visibility in "high-crime" areas of Minneapolis recently, and 20 additional troopers and aviation resources were assigned to the metro area yesterday and today specifically to discourage racing. The city reportedly plans to reimburse the state agency up to $400,000 for all expenses related to the extra patrols. (Patch)
  2. Police were called to Minneapolis' Dinkytown neighborhood on Friday morning for an apparent shooting outside a local eatery. The incident occurred overnight and left a shattered window at Burrito Loco on 13th Avenue Southeast. A witness at the scene reportedly heard arguing followed by gunshots, but no details have been confirmed by authorities at this time. (Patch)
  3. The Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport is among four in Minnesota to receive federal funding under President Biden's bipartisan infrastructure law. Just 84 total airports across the nation were chosen to receive funds from the $1 billion effort by the federal government to improve airports nationwide. The largest share of Minnesota's $21.3 million is going toward upgrades to MSP's main terminal. (KDUZ/KARP Radio)
