Toys 'R' Us Is Opening A Store In The Mall Of America

BLOOMINGTON, MN — Six years after the chain declared bankruptcy and shuttered stores across the nation, Toys 'R' Us is opening a new store at the Mall of America ahead of the holiday shopping season.

On Monday, WHP Global — the parent company of Toys 'R' Us — announced the location of its second U.S. "flagship" store at the Mall of America. The new location is set to open just before Thanksgiving.

The first flagship store is at the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, N.J.

"After the success we've experienced with our first flagship at American Dream and shops inside Macy's, bringing Toys 'R' Us to Mall of America was a must," said Jamie Uitdenhowen, an executive with WHP Global.

"There is the perfect mix of entertainment and retail that makes it a highly trafficked go-to-destination for families year-round."

The Toys 'R' Us store at the Mall of America will span more than 11,000 square feet and offer toys and games for kids of all ages. Families can also take a photo with the famous "Geoffrey the Giraffe."

Next year, the store will introduce new branded elements like Geoffrey's Café and ice cream parlor, plus "interactive experiences" and product demonstrations from popular toy vendors.

"Toys 'R' Us has played a role in creating special memories for so many of us," said Heather Brechbill-Swilley, a vice president at the Mall of America.
