Update On Fatal Crash In Minneapolis

Two Vehicle Crash Leaves One Dead
September 12, 2020 (MINNEAPOLIS) On Saturday morning at 3:42 am, Minneapolis Police and Fire responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle crash at the intersection of 26th Street East and Cedar Avenue South.

Officers arrived and located two vehicles severely damaged to the west of the intersection.
Preliminary investigation indicates one vehicle was westbound on 26th Street and struck a vehicle that was southbound on Cedar Avenue. The three occupants of the westbound vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the southbound vehicle died at the scene. The victim, an adult male in his 50s, was the driver and lone occupant.
Factors believed to be present in this crash are possible drug or alcohol impairment, excessive speed and failing to obey a traffic control device on the part of the striking vehicle. A warrant for a blood sample to detect the presence of drugs or alcohol in the suspect was executed. The suspect is described as an adult male in his 30s.
The Minneapolis traffic unit responded and processed the scene with crime lab personnel.
The identity of the victim, along with the nature and cause of death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office in the coming days.
