Three cities, two individuals and a health care organization and a senior center are the recipients of the first Key Community Partners Awards presented by Senior Community Services (SCS). The cities of Albertville, Hanover and St. Michael along with Allina Healthcare, the Gillespie Center, and community volunteers Barb Jensen and Darwin Klockers received their awards a recent luncheon ceremony in Minnetonka. The event was hosted by WCCO’s Roger Erickson and featured keynote speaker Tom Gillaspy, MN State Demographer.
The Key Community Partners Awards is given in recognition of the contributions recipients have had on the senior population in their communities. “Senior Community Services has been active in supporting positive aging and independence for seniors since 1950. That longevity and our success are directly attributable to the partnerships we have with municipalities, corporations and the thousands of individual volunteers that help carry out our mission. The Key Community Partner Award honors those whose efforts have had a significant impact,” said Benjamin Withhart, Executive Director and CEO of SCS.
Senior Community Service is a nonprofit organization that provides innovative, community-based, service programs to seniors and their caregivers to help them remain independent. Programs include providing support for home maintenance tasks, coordinating care services, Medicare counseling, development of senior centers, tour programs and a newly-launched program for seniors and caregivers called CareNextion that centralizes care via web-based portal. SCS serves all of suburban Hennepin County and adjacent Wright County communities. For more information about SCS, visit seniorcommunity.org.
