Injured Veterans and Local Cyclists to Participate in Ride 2 Recovery Honor Ride in Minneapolis and around Lake Minnetonka
• Fund-raising event will support Ride 2 Recovery’s rehabilitation programs for injured veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan
• Public encouraged to ride with service men and women

The second annual Ride 2 Recovery Honor Ride will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11 to honor the service men and women who have served our country defending our freedoms.

Ride 2 Recovery, presented by UnitedHealthcare, is hosting this one-day cycling ride to raise both awareness and funds to support injured veterans’ physical and mental rehabilitation.

The public is invited to join injured veterans as they cycle 36 miles through Minneapolis and around Lake Minnetonka. The ride will begin and end at The Parkdale Offices parking lot at 5401 Gamble Dr. in Minneapolis. Registration will be held from 7 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. with the ride beginning at 9 a.m. Cyclists are welcome to participate, and the public is encouraged to gather along the route to support the injured veterans.

Ride 2 Recovery supports physical and psychological rehabilitation programs for injured veterans, featuring cycling as the core activity. From indoor spinning training at military installations to multiday, long-distance rides, Ride 2 Recovery helps injured veterans heal through the challenge of cycling long distances using hand cycles, recumbents, tandems and traditional road bikes.

Funds raised by events such as the Honor Ride support the participation of veterans including the purchase of bikes, helmets and other equipment. Bikes are often custom fitted to the physical needs of individual riders. UnitedHealthcare is the 2012 presenting sponsor of Ride 2 Recovery’s seven cycling challenges.
