The first Chinese Immersion Preschool in the west metro is opening soon in Minnetonka this fall. Sleepy Tigers Chinese Immersion Learning Center has been offering Mandarin Chinese programs in the Twin Cities for the past 4 years.
Since China’s economy has been on the rise in the recent years, more and more young Americans have begun to learn Mandarin Chinese. The Twin Cities has also taken note as there are now 4 Chinese Immersion elementary school programs in the metro area: Yinghua Academy in Minneapolis, Xingxing Academy in Hopkins Public Schools, and 2 in the Minnetonka Public Schools. Every year these school are putting more and more students on the waiting list due to the demand of trying to get in the Chinese Immersion Programs.
Research shows, the earlier a child is introduced to a second language, the greater the chances are that the child will become truly proficient in that language. Students of foreign languages have access to a greater number of career possibilities and develop a deeper understanding of their own culture as well as other cultures. Many studies have shown that children who receive instruction in a second language are more creative and better at solving complex problems.
