Don't think golf and chiropractic have anything in common? Think again.
Last week a practice member at Chiropractic Concepts in Minnetonka referred their buddy in having low back pain. And as the snow was still falling in May, all this guy could ask about was how about my golf game? A week later he hit the links. Next appointment in of course I was excited to see how his game went. Remember, he could barely move a week previous. His instructions were he could golf under 2 conditions: stop if your pain level increases above a 7 and only take half a back-swing and swing easy.
He and I are happy to report: golfing partners said his swing never looked better, and he golfed WELL!!!

Our bet is that by the end of the summer he will be pain free and will take 4 strokes off his golf game. As his doctor, I'm more concerned with his health (and actually so is he), but we both recognize that when you are not able to do what you love, your health SUFFERS.
But how can this be? How can your spine and nervous system affect your golf game?

Bone: Pelvic and spinal muscles can become misaligned and eventually subluxated with repetitive stress on and off the course. Subluxation means that the joints are not only misaligned, but are also putting pressure on the nervous system.
Muscles:
Muscles attach to the bones to provide levers for movement. When your pelvis is misaligned, the muscle groups will show patterns of asymmetry. This can lead to lack of coordination as well. The smoothest swings can generate the most power.
Tips for more power and a smoother swing without injuring your back:
1. Try a shorter back-swing; this will allow for more control and the same club-head speed can be achieved as a long back-swing.
2. The shorter back-swing will reduce torsional (twisting) stress on the low back; this will help prevent fatigue through 18 holes and injury long-term.
Nerves:
Nerves coordinate and control all actions of the body. The ultimately send the power signal to all muscles to move, but also to all organs to function.
