What do you look for in a chiropractor?
A chiropractor asks the community to provide their opinions about the chiropractic profession; its appearance to you and, if you use a chiropractor, why you would choose one over another.
Health care is such a big topic/ issue these days! And rightly so. It has some deeply personal aspects as well as some more general aspects. Within the chiropractic profession, as a DC (Doctor of chiropractic), we can only see so far and so much due to the fact that our training and professional involvement obscures our perceptions as consumers- even though we are also consumers of chiropractic services. As DCs we have plenty of opinions about what we think the health care consumer wants and expects from us. We may be right and we may be wrong with these opinions from the viewpoint of any given individual. DCs want to be more utilized by the health care consumer, but there may be some huge hurdles to overcome first, such as a pervasive public understanding or misunderstanding regarding the profession and its foundation as a scientifically-based health care modality.
My curiosity compels me to ask you, the public, non-chiropractic professional, "What do you look for in a chiropractor?" Maybe you love chiropractors, maybe you don't, maybe you feel indifferent towards them. "Why?" I would even welcome feedback from those who do not use a DC for health care, but please identify yourself as such to allow the reader a context for your response. Thank you!
