Minnetonka: Curfews Keep Kids Safe
The City of Minnetonka enforces a curfew policy for anyone under the age of 18.

Did you know that the city of Minnetonka enforces a juvenile curfew ordinance?
According to the city’s website, “The curfew ordinance is in place not just to keep kids out of trouble, but also to protect them from becoming victims.”

- Children younger than 12: Sunday through Thursday, 9 p.m./ Friday and Saturday, 10 p.m.
- Ages 12, 13, 14: Sunday through Thursday, 10 p.m./Friday and Saturday, 11 p.m.
- Ages 15, 16, 17: Sunday through Thursday, 11 p.m./ Friday and Saturday, 12 a.m.
Curfews apply to anyone under age 18, at any public place, including streets, schools, hospitals, apartment and office buildings, bus stops and retail stores.
The city wants parents to remember that they can always set tighter curfews and they ask anyone who is witness to juveniles breaking the curfew ordinance, to call 9-1-1 and report it.

There are some exceptions to the curfew ordinance:
- If a juvenile is accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult or doing an errand for a parent or guardian.
- If a juvenile is working or going to and from work, an official school, religious or recreational activity.
- If a juvenile is in an emergency situation.
- If a juvenile is exercising First Amendment rights, protected by the federal or state constitution.
- If a juvenile is in the midst of interstate travel.
- If a juvenile is on a public street that borders on property where they live or a neighbor’s property.
Minnetonka's curfew ordinance is identical to the curfew ordinance which is in effect in Hennepin County.
