Minnetonka Police Arrest 92-Year-Old for DWI

Public Safety Update

In the last seven days, Minnetonka police officers responded to 458 calls for service, initiated 342 traffic stops, made 29 custodial arrests and issued 116 citations for various traffic violations.

The police reserve unit submitted their annual report on citations and warnings issued in 2010. Last year Minnetonka reserves wrote a total of 85 warning notices and 368 citations for i, expired registration and general parking violations. In comparison, there were 121 warnings and 372 citations written in 2009.

During the week the duty crew responded to a mutual aid request from Plymouth, two vehicle fires, four natural gas leaks, 13 medicals, five lift assists and a false alarm. Two callbacks of on-call firefighters were initiated. 

On Monday afternoon the duty crew, chief officers, an all-callback of personnel and a ladder company from Hopkins responded to smoke in an elevator room in a business on Bren Road East. Arriving crews found an elevator motor had caught fire, and was creating the heavy smoke. The building was ventilated and the elevator shut down.

This week the city demolished two homes on Minnetonka Boulevard. The two homes were purchased as part of the city’s plan to expand open space and parkland along the creek. They served as the sites for the which Minnetonka Patch reported on earlier this month. 

Jan. 30

1:36 a.m.: a man, 29, from Richfield, Minn., was arrested at Interstate 394 and Plymouth Road, for driving after having his license revoked and for possession of methamphetamines.

2:54 a.m.: a man, 23, from Excelsior, Minn., was arrested at Interstate 494 and Minnetonka Boulevard, for 4^th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.

3:02 a.m.: Minnetonka Police served a warrant at a home in the 5100 block of Boarshead Road. At that home, police took a 27-year-old man into custody. This man has previously been charged with two counts of felony assault, burglary, witness tampering and drug possession.

3:08 a.m.: a man, 32, from Minnetonka, Minn., was arrested at Smetana Court and Opportunity Court, for 4^th degree DWI, a misdemeanor, and for speeding.

8:14 p.m.: a woman, 23, from Eden Prairie, Minn., was arrested at Clear Spring Road and Excelsior Boulevard, for driving after her license was revoked. She has previously been arrested for underage consumption of alcohol,  3^rd degree DWI and two counts of speeding.

Jan. 31

9:27 a.m.: a man, 29, from Hopkins, Minn., was arrested at Hopkins Crossroad and Minnetonka Mills Road, for driving after his license was revoked.

2:36 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to after a call came in to police reporting drug activity there. A man, 34, from Minneapolis, Minn., was arrested on the scene for possession of drug paraphernalia.

6:27 p.m.: a man, 52, from Minnetonka, Minn., was arrested in the 11000 block of Cedar Lake Road, for loud noise/party.

Feb. 2

12:11 a.m.: a man, 21, from Minnetonka, Minn., was arrested at his home in the 300 block of Carlson Parkway, for misdemeanor domestic assault.

3:48 p.m.: Minnetonka Police served an arrest warrant at a home in the 18300 block of Creeks Bend Drive. At that address, police took a 18-year-old Tonka Bay man into custody. This man was previously arrested in the fall of 2010 in Carver County and charged with possession and sale of a small amount of marijuana.

Feb. 4

2:02 a.m.: a woman, 42, from Minneapolis, Minn., was arrested at Smetana Road and 11^th Avenue, for 4^th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.

4:38 p.m.: a man, 93, from Eden Prairie, Minn., was arrested at Baker Road and County Road 62, for 4^th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.

8:47 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to the 5900 block of Baker Road for a report of burglary. Police detectives declined to comment on the case because it is still active.

9:04 p.m.: a man, 20, from Minnetonka, Minn., was arrested at Bayswater Road and Highway 7 for possession of a small amount of marijuana and of drug paraphernalia. 

Feb. 5

2:16 a.m.: a man, 34, from Minnetonka, Minn., was arrested three miles from his home, at the intersection Baker Road and Burkshire Drive, for 3^rd degree DWI, a gross misdemeanor. This is the second DWI arrest for this individual. He was arrested in 2005 for 4^th degree DWI, a misdemeanor, and paid a $375 fine.

Feb. 7

12:41 a.m.: a woman, 24, from Minnetonka, Minn., was arrested at Interstate 494 and Highway 55, for 4^th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.

2:26 a.m.: a woman, 24, from Minnetonka, Minn., was arrested at County Road 101 and Saddlewood Lane, for 4^th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.
