Minnetonka's Tennis Season Ends At State

Doubles team Maya MacGibbon and Sydney Baldwin and singles player Jessica Richards both went 1-1 at the tournament

The Minnetonka girls tennis team’s season officially came to an end on Thursday as both its singles and doubles state entrants bowed out of their respective brackets.

Doubles teams Maya MacGibbon and Sydney Baldwin went 1-1 at the Class AA state tournament at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center, while singles player Jessica Richards also went 1-1 at the tournament.

Richards opened up the tournament with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Blaine’s Mary Liz Swanson in the first round, then was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Edina’s Caroline Ward. Ward, who reached the finals on Friday, won 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.

MacGibbon and Baldwin defeated Elk River’s Camille Kraljic and Catherine O’Connell 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday in the first round in comeback fashion. But the duo then lost to Meredith Lawrence and Morgan Morrison of Visitation by a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 margin.
