Minnetonka Sisters Get To The Heart of Wellness

Kym Majka and Lisa Lensegrav keep each other fit, happy and healthy.

If a sister is a gift to the heart, as one saying goes, a pair of Minnetonka sisters are quite literally “gifts to the heart” for each other.

Since 1987, Kym Majka and Lisa Lensegrav have called The Marsh in Minnetonka their home base for health and fitness, as well as a place to stay connected with each other. Over the years they’ve participated in practically every group exercise class the facility has offered.

They try it all—yoga, cycling, Body Pump, Cardio Rebound and Zumba—and are among the most enthusiastic advocates for Step and BodyJam. For these sisters, exercise is not an “I have to” but an “I get to.” Both are true believers in the power of exercise as medicine.

“I want to keep moving, so I can keep moving,” explained Lensegrav.

While the sisters have found their place for own home for wellness, Lensegrav has this advice: “Find an environment that suits you. You are doing this for yourself so it should feel comfortable or you probably won't continue.”

The sisters talk about the physical and emotional value of exercise. Majka points out that her “real” physical age is 37, even though her chronological age is 48. The sisters have shared joys and sorrows, supported and celebrated one another— all the while making sure each other’s heart keeps on beating at it’s very best.

“Watching my parents and in-laws struggle with aging only renews my belief that our bodies were meant to move,” said Majka. “Aging is inevitable, but I want to be able to enjoy those years and I feel staying fit can go a long way toward that goal.”
