Missing Minnetonka Man Found Dead in Quetico Provincial Park

Provincial Police had been searching for 78-year-old Richard Barber since receiving a distress call Sunday.

A missing Minnetonka man was found dead along the Canadian border Thursday, WDIO-TV reported.

Searchers found the body of 78-year-old Richard Barber in Basswood Lake within Quetico Provincial Park.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to a distress call from a satellite phone Sunday evening made near Basswood Lake, according to the Star Tribune. They couldn’t find the people in distress before nightfall, but found a woman Monday morning.

Provincial police haven’t released additional details.

Barber's wife, Elaine Barber, told the Star Tribune that the couple's canoe capsized in the Basswood River rapids during the first part of a three-week trip. She managed to swim to shore, but her husband could not.
