UPDATE 3: Minnetonka Boy Remains in Critical Condition After Being Struck by Car

A 10-year-old boy was hit on Excelsior Boulevard in Minnetonka Tuesday.

A 10-year-old boy remains in critical condition Thursday after being hit by a car on Excelsior Boulevard around 4 p.m. earlier this week.

After the accident, Minnetonka Police said the boy was "seriously injured" and that he had been transported to Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance. According to an HCMC spokesperson, the boy remains in critical condition today.

Minnetonka Patch has identified the victim as Sam Seward, a Minnetonka resident and an elementary student at  in Hopkins. The accident happened only yards from Seward's home in the 13500 block of Excelsior Boulevard, just west of Interstate 494.

St. John's Principal Kathleen Segna said teachers in the school talked to each of their classes about the incident—making sure to inform the students in an age-appropriate manner. The school also sent a note home with children today that told parents about the incident and asked school families to keep the Sewards in their thoughts and prayers.

The St. John's students, themselves, prayed for Sam Seward at their daily 9:30 a.m. Mass. They also made cards that have been delivered to Seward at the hospital.

"We're doing as good as we can do," Segna said Wednesday.

St. John's isn't the only area school thinking of the Seward family tonight. Patch has confirmed that Seward has one relative and many friends who are students at Glen Lake Elementary.  His address falls within the geographic boundary for that school.

Glen Lake Elementary Principal Beth Potter told Patch that her students took the Minnesota Comprehensive Tests as planned on Wednesday but that teachers also discussed the accident with kids.

"We're going to take care of our kids today, and talk to them at the end of the day," Potter said.

Both Minnetonka Police Chief Mark Raquet and Minnesota State Patrol Spokesperson Eric Roeske said that the state patrol was called in Tuesday evening to conduct an accident reconstruction at the scene.

Witnesses to the accident said the female driver was visibly shaken in the aftermath. The sedan that she was driving was reportedly towed from the scene.

On Thursday a Minnetonka spokeswoman said that there is no new information on the case and that Minnetonka Police are continuing to investigate.
