Senior Community Services today named Deb Taylor as its new CEO. Taylor brings more than 13 years of experience in executive leadership roles in the nonprofit sector, both at Senior Community Services where she has been serving as COO, and at Wayside House, Inc., where she held the positions of Associate Director and Interim Executive Director, among other leadership roles. Taylor will begin her tenure on August 1, 2013.
Outgoing Executive Director and CEO, Benjamin Withhart, announced his retirement 18 months ago, after 37 years with Senior Community Services, which began serving suburban Hennepin County in 1950. Among the many strategic initiatives implemented during his tenure was his vision to expand community-based senior and caregiver services by starting CareNextion.org – a web-based tool for coordination of care, accessing local resources and phone support. This innovative service empowers seniors to live independently by providing them and their caregivers with support and information through free, easy to use technology.
Senior Community Services operates more Senior Centers than any other nonprofit in Minnesota and has the largest Chore program, called Household and Outside Maintenance for Elderly (HOME), in the Twin Cities Metro Area. Under Withhart’s leadership, Senior Community Services launched a volunteer-based Medicare & Health Insurance Counseling program, initiated the Senior Outreach and Caregiver Services program, and acquired the Senior Partners Care program. Today, Senior Community Services serves well over 20,000 older adults and caregivers annually.
