Skippers Split Hockey, Basketball Matchups

Minnetonka girls hockey shuts outs St. Cloud, while boys hoops falls to Rosemount.

Home fans that attended Minnetonka's Tuesday night varsity games witnessed either victory or defeat depending on whether they sat in the school's gymnasium or ice arena.

Girls Hockey: Skippers 7, St. Cloud 0

The Minnetonka girls hockey team glided to an easy 7-0 victory against the St. Cloud high school's cooperative squad at Pagel Ice Arena.

Forwards Carolyn Draayer and Hadley Cookson each scored two goals, with forwards Paige Baldwin, Amy Peterson and Laura Bowman each contributing one goal apiece in the shutout victory against the Ice Breakers.

Goaltender Julie Friend made 13 saves on the night as the Skippers improved to 9-1 on the season with a road game versus Benilde-St. Margaret's at the St. Louis Park Rec Center next up at 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Boys Basketball: Rosemount 39, Skippers 24

The Minnetonka boys basketball team fell behind early and had to play catch-up all night long before falling 61-57 to visiting Rosemount.

The visiting Irish went up by 15 points, 39-24, at half before the Skippers rallied to pull within four points before time ran out. The loss dropped Minnetonka to 0-2 and left new coach Tom Dasovich still seeking his first victory with the program.

Guard Andy Jones led the Skippers with 16 points, while forward Blake Nelson chipped in 13 points on the night.

Minnetonka travels to Champlin Park next, tipping off against the Rebels at 7 p.m. Friday night.

Nordic Ski Meet Today

The Skippers Nordic ski teams are scheduled to face off against their Lake Conference opponents today in a meet at Hyland Park Reserve. Both boys and girls varsity and junior varsity teams are compete in the skate race at 3:30 p.m. Back up site is at Elm Creek.
