St. Louis Park's Annual Ice Cream Social Not Just Another Community Gathering
Families will have the opportunity to win a college scholarship at the St. Louis Park Ice Cream Social

(St. Louis Park) – Kids and kids at heart will find plenty of food, music and camaraderie at the 22nd annual Children First Ice Cream Social at Wolfe Park in St. Louis Park on Sun., May 17, 2015.
There will be ice cream for all, as well as live performances by the St. Louis Park High School Chamber Orchestra at 3 p.m., the Park Dance Center at 3:30 p.m. and the St. Louis Park Jazz Band at 4 p.m. There will also be a kids garage sale sponsored by the Parks & Recreation Department, craft activities, and displays by local organizations, including the Minnesota College Savings Plan.
At the booth, parents will be able to pick up a bag filled with informational brochures and free gifts. They can also enter for the chance to win $100 to put towards a college savings account.

Research shows people who save for college, even if it’s not much, are more likely to send their kids to college when the time comes. According to statistics from the Minnesota Office of Higher Education, Hennepin County leads the state when it comes to the number of parents who save for college. Of the 17,001 account holders in Hennepin County, 963 of them live in St. Louis Park and they have saved a total of $24,861,956 for college.
“We are proud to be associated with Children First. They do so many wonderful things in the community. We are happy to participate and help the people they serve learn how to save for college,” said Robert Stern, program manager for MN College Savings.
