The history of Big Island will be the subject of a talk on June 20 at the Southshore Center in Shorewood. Paul Maravelas, who is writing a book about the island for the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Historical Society, will discuss the island’s story.
At the center of lower Lake Minnetonka, Big Island was the site of a Dakota Indian sugaring camp, a pioneer homestead, a groggery, a legendary estate, an amusement park, a game farm, and a veteran’s rest camp.
The Southshore Center is located at 5735 Country Club Road in Shorewood. This free program will begin at 7 pm, and is sponsored by the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Historical Society. Visit the ELMHS website at http://www.elmhs.org and http://facebook.com/ELMHS.
